Iris Publishers - Journal of Civil Engineering Evaluating the Effect of Support Rotation on the Buckling Modes and Critical Displacement of Elastomeric Base Isolators Base isolation is one of the ways to stabilize structures against earthquake. In general, two types of system for isolate are used: laminated rubber bearing and lead rubber bearing. In this paper, the laminated rubber bearing is used. These isolators are made of bonded steel and rubber sheets with vulcanization. One of the most important factors for their design is stability because they can cause damage to the upper structures due to instability. For stability check the buckling load calculated based on the theory relation and compared with the finite element method. The support rotation causes a significant reduction in the buckling load and critical displacement of the isolators. In this research, the buckling load of square and circular isolator is calculated and shows that the buckling load of square isolator is hig...

Iris Publishers - Open Access Journal of Civil Engineering Seismicity and Water Level change in the Caspian Sea, an Explicit Function Based on Genetic Algorithm Unique water level variations make the Caspian Sea a suitable case for investigating seismic responses, analogous to the problem of Reservoir Induced Seismicity (RIS) which is an interesting issue in civil, geotechnical and earthquake engineering. An analysis using past data demonstrates that the seismicity of the Caspian Sea region changed with changing sea water level and changes in the b-value of the Gutenberg-Richter Relation have had an inverse correlation with sea level changes. It is conventionally assumed that, the b-value can show the stress level in a region, hence, additional loads on the earth crust, represented by sea level changes, affect the b-value and change seismic regime. It is not possible to calculate b-values for all time periods due to limitations in the past data and therefore, an explicit ...
