Iris Publishers - Open Access Journal of Civil and Structural Engineering Application of Measurement Technology in the Teaching of Bridge Inspection Course Abstract Aiming at the current teaching situation of bridge inspection courses, this paper discusses the shortcomings and causes of the current bridge inspection courses in measurement technology teaching. For the purpose of training talents and improving measurement technology, we propose methods for teaching reform of measurement technology. Through measures such as increasing the test environment and improving laboratories, we can cultivate students’ practical ability and awareness, improve teaching quality, and provide reference for related courses. Keywords:  Bridge; Instrument; Detection Introduction The rapid economic development has driven the construction of infrastructure and bridge projects into a period of rapid development. The increasing traffic volume which continues to increase has a greater impact on the ...

Iris Publishers - Journal of Civil and Structural Engineering The Emerging Need for Civil Engineering Design to Embrace a New Systems Approach to the Solution of Complex Problems in Rapidly Changing Technical and Political Landscapes Abstract Traditional solutions to engineering problems have utilized long standing methods developed using deterministic algorithms to arrive at optimal solutions to problems which are relatively easily defined. In a modern, rapidly changing technical and political landscape, these traditional methods do not react rapidly enough to emerging outcomes dependent on interactions between multiple variable systems. The author considers the efficacy of traditional approaches when applied to solving modern complex problems and suggests that there is much our industry could gain by adopting the types of techniques being developed in other fields of expertise. Introduction Picture a scene of a wandering explorer hiking through a mountainous unexplored landscape...

Iris Publishers - Open Access Journal of Civil and Structural Engineering Comparative Analysis of Engineering Properties of Indus River Sand Concrete with Quarry Dust Concrete, District Jamshoro Sindh Pakistan Abstract This study shows the comparative analysis engineering, the physical and mechanical properties of river sand concrete with quarry dust concrete. The selected materials were batched by weight and volume. The water-cement ratio was opted as 0.50 1:2:4 for mix ratio was selected for the experimental investigation, respectively. The specimens were cured for 7, 14, 21 and 28 days. For the purpose Slump, density and compressive strength tests were carried out. The river sand concrete showed better results and greater density and compressive strength than quarry dust concrete for all curing ages. The 28 days of curing, river sand concrete rise the required compressive strength by 36%, whereas quarry dust concrete was less than the limit compressive strength by 12%. B...

Iris Publishers - Journals of Civil and Structural Engineering Review of “Forensic Engineering, Legal Considerations, and Property Damage Assessment from Construction Vibrations” by D.S. Saxena, Prashanth Vaddu and Anu Saxena The paper contains a brief description of forensic investigations of failures and short information on a case history of damage to structures from construction vibrations [1]. The review focuses on the case history which is fully presented in Svinkin and Saxena [2]. The reviewer wishes to bring attention to proper evaluation of vibration effects on structures. Detrimental consequences of construction vibrations are not only topic for academic interests. These effects create meaningful practical problems. Each year, numerous structures, and residential houses among them receive damage from construction operations, and these consequences result in litigations. It is necessary to professionally manage construction vibrations, and sensible vibration limits are i...

Iris Publishers - Scholarly Open access Journals of Civil and Structural Engineering Achieving A Higher Optimality for Lattice Steel Structures Utilizing A Multi-Layer Optimization Scheme Finding the optimum layout of a given structure that satisfies all the architectural requirements while maintaining the structural optimality has been of interest to the research community for many years. Concurrently, the structural design community has been making effort towards reducing the environmental impact through optimizing the structural design. However, the gap between the layout optimization in research and the structural design industry is yet to be significantly reduced. This research proposes a multilayer optimization framework, where the first layer is concerned with solving the layout problem using Simple Isotropic Material with Penalization (SIMP) topology optimization, and the second optimization layer determines the optimum structural elements’ design for the proposed layout ...

Iris Publishers- Peer Review Journals of Civil Engineering

Iris Publishers - Peer Review Journals of Civil Engineering The Core Value of Modern Mass Transit Systems The mass transit system is a behemoth in a metropolis. It requires a lot of investment, human and material resources, but there is no way to try samples. Once the construction of the hardware facilities is completed, it will be difficult to modify them in the future. Rarely two lines are the same. It is not possible to fully replicate the specifications and meet the needs of the line. Therefore, the core value base strategy is very important. As long as the core values are correct, the system established will meet the needs of local society and industry. Read More...
