Iris Publishers - Peer Review Journal of Civil and Structural Engineering Proportional Examination of Pf Mechanical Composition of Concrete Produced with Washed and Unwashed Gravel Abstract Concrete is a very important material in the Nigerian construction industry as over 90% of her storey buildings are made from reinforced concrete. Local gravel is being increasingly used as coarse aggregate in place of the more expensive crushed granite in the production of concrete in parts of the country where it is found. Hence, this study aims at comparing the mechanical properties of concrete produced with washed and unwashed gravel to identify the most suitable aggregate for concrete. The use of two types of course aggregates for different works is examined in this study. Typical strength concrete is being made from various aggregates and their impact on various characteristics to the subsequent concrete. Compressive strength is the most vital property of concrete. In this paper, t...

Iris Publishers - Open Access Journal of Civil and Structural Engineering Modern and Future Issues facing Civil Engineering and Construction Abstract The world of construction and civil engineering faces many broad issues in today’s climate. These issues affect areas such as road, bridge, rail, ship, general building construction, as well as oil and gas projects, tunnels, dams and wind farms. The civil engineering profession involves a lot of sub- disciplines and deals with the infrastructure and maintenance of built environments. As civil engineers there is a social responsibility to maintain and adapt structures to make life manageable. In this brief article we aim to highlight some of the most pressing issues that are occurring, and we offer some solutions and thoughts. Keywords: Civil engineering; Challenges; Infrastructure; Community; Sustainable; Safety; Management; Pandemic; Covid-19 Introduction There are a lot of pressures on civil engineers these days, and in order to su...

Iris Publishers - Journal of Civil and Structural Engineering Computational Examination of Aerodynamics Forces and Evolution of Vortex Shedding of Flow Past Three Square Cylinders at Two Symmetrical Vee Shapes Abstract The flow past three square cylinders at two symmetrical vee shapes has been investigated by a finite-volume method numerical technique. The two-dimensional computations have been performed for different Reynolds number (Re) ranging from 1 to 180 in order to consider different flow regimes; the steady, the periodic and the turbulent flow. The validation of the code with the available literature results regarded both the reliability of the computed solutions and the overall resulting efficiency of the methods. Velocity profiles, vorticity contours and integral parameters such as Strouhal number, drag and lift coefficients have been presented and analyzed. Steady and unsteady regimes of flow have been observed by monotonously changing the Re value, leading to the pred...
